Dr. Affeln lends his vast experience in occupational medicine as a Medical Director to OEHN clients in a variety of settings including hospital employee health, biotechnology, corporations and law enforcement. Dr. Affeln currently serves as the Medical Director for the Boston Police Department.
After completing training in general practice at a family practice in an urban London neighborhood, Dr. Affeln became a fellow in Palliative Care at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He then undertook a general preventive primary care medicine residency at Carney Hospital in Dorchester MA. Prior to joining OEHN, Dr. Affeln was previously affiliated with the CareGroup Occupational Health Network as Medical Director for Chelsea Occupational Health Services.
His area of expertise includes the treatment of work related injuries and illnesses, evaluation of fitness for duty and disability, workplace health and safety consultation, and occupational issues faced by healthcare workers and law enforcement personnel.
Dr. Affeln serves as a visiting Lecturer for Harvard School of Public Health’s OEM Residency Program and as a preceptor for the residents during their practicum site rotations through OEHN.
