ADA and Disability
Work-site Assessments
Although
employment of disabled workers generally
requires special considerations in workplace
design, accommodating disabled workers creates a
larger labor pool, helps reduce long-term
disability, rehabilitation and retraining costs
associated with occupational injuries.
Accommodating the disabled employee is a
specialized segment of ergonomic job design -
"fitting the job to the worker". Assessment is
performed of the abilities of the person and the
demands of the job. Recommendations are made
regarding equipment, materials, work methods,
job structure, and work area and/or environment.
